Du Toit Family Photo Shoot
Meet Du Toit Family.
This happy bunch first appeared very shy in front of my camera. But few playful tasks for boys, couple of Russian words and some encouragement helped them to open up! I find it is always easier to photograph families with kids in a very playful way. We have been crossing rivers with crocodiles, jumping from one ship to another, climbing trees and just being silly. Parents love to play along and help transform common park into a real scene of action. Thank you for such fun photoshoot, so blessed!

Ilze and Tal Engagement Shoot
These two love birds couldn’t stop laughing throughout the whole engagement shoot. Deeply in love, playful and beautiful – that is how I would describe this couple.
Before the shoot we scouted some funky places in and out of Knysna. We started off by taking photographs in a cafe “Trobb” (Knysna) with a very cosy and creative set up and slowly moved to beautiful Buffels bay. I found out that both Ilze and Tal are fond of nature walks, hikes, swimming and surfing. therefore we were looking for spots that would represent their nature spirit. Buffels Bay river mouth, ocean rocks and foresty hills of Buffels Bay became our backdrop.
Ilze looked like a real fairy. Their genuine love was shining through.Thank you, guys, for an amazing shoot. Enjoy the photographs of our photo adventure.

Expedition to Mozambique 2014
Being an in-house photographer for Unravel Surf Travel , gives me an amazing opportunity to photograph these amazing adventures.
It’s a family affair. Myself and my husband Hermann, we organised individualised surfing and yoga tours in South Africa and neighboring countries.
From our winter expedition to Mozambique via Kruger Park, South Africa.

It’s difficult to believe that all of it really happened… But it did! And it was incredible!
Johannesburg. Kruger Park. Wild animals, in their natural habitat. African border crossing. Mozambique. Beaches. Yoga. Surfing. Waves. And more!
I always emphasize the point here that every Surf Tour with Unravel Surf Travel is unique. There’s no packaged itinerary winding down a beaten path. Every Tour we do is fresh. Every Tour is different. And every Tour is personal.
It is us. It is what we do. Jenya and I. For you. Personally.
We customize every experience according to the people we’re on Tour with. That’s the way we operate.
ure, we could standardize every Tour, buy a bus and become just another Tour Operator zipping up and down the coast. But then Surf Touring will become our job. Something we do simply to earn a living.
We don’t want the bottom line to become more important than your experience. Because your experience is our experience. And that experience is our focus.
The way we do it now, that’s the way we like it. It is a way of life for us. On tour, we travel as much as our clients do. And, as an added bonus, we provide our customers with an awesome experience, surfing and exploring Southern Africa!
This particular tour started in Johannesburg, took us to Malelane and into the Kruger National Park. From there we drove to Komatiepoort, crossed the border into Mozambique and reached our final destination, Tofo, Inhambane, where we surfed every day and had a whole bunch of other incredible experiences!
The Kruger Park is always impressive. There’s nothing quite like it. Driving through the gates of what remains a truly wild experience! We spent two entire days exploring the southern part of the park, which is the size of a small country, and spotted many wild animals, roaming about freely! As intended it to be.
Crossing the border into Mozambique was wild! There’s a definite change in the air as one moves from one African country into another. The roads were long and often slow, but driving through the landscape gives one a true taste of Africa!
The bewildered looks of locals met our looks of fascination. And somewhere in between was that feeling only true travellers experience.
The surfing in Tofo was awesome! Tofo is definitely one of those places that easily accommodates every surfer, from beginner to advanced. Those that surfed for the very first time were as stoked as those of us who were progressing to an intermediate level and beyond.
The beach-break offered great waves for learning the basics while the point offered world class walls with some super fun barrels! And there’s talk of plenty other mind blowing surf spots in the area! Something we’ll definitely look into when we return!
And we will return! We’re definitely considering making this an annual Surf Tour! The wild animals of the Kruger Park, the humpback whales of Tofo, the waves, the people, the food, and how could anyone forget the sunset Yoga sessions on the beach!
We’ll definitely be back in Mozambique! Check our Surf Tours Page, Facebook Page and sign up for our newsletter to stay updated on upcoming Tours!
But, for now, enjoy the photos of our trip!

Salome and Stephan
It is always exciting to work with cute shy couples, and then, see them transform throughout the photo shoot. Meet Salome and Stephan. Both of them leave in Germany. Last month they came to South Africa on holiday to visit Salome’s parents. Oh yes, remember that moment when boyfriend meets her family for the first time! Exciting, but scary:)
With the help of photography I wanted to show them, how beautiful they are together, show them their love for each other. By the end of the shoot they opened up and helped me create memories!
Point of Human Origins, Mossel Bay , South Africa
Last week I joined archaeologist Peter Nilssen on his tour “Point of Human Origins” in Mossel Bay South Africa. Rainy cold day didn’t spoil the experience. It was an exciting interactive talk on our origins and present human condition combined with an archaeological walk to scenic caves.
Until year 2000 it was believed that modern human behaviour first appeared in Eurasia about 50 000 years ago. The Pinnacle Point Caves of Mossel Bay show evidence of modern human behaviour that dates between 72 000 and 162 000 years ago. The evidence suggests that Pinnacle Point of Mossel Bay has the traces of the earliest modern humans. In other words until they find something else, that is where modern humans come from, that is where we come from or have been on our journey.
The big part of the Peter Nilssen’s tour is dedicated to understanding of the human bahaviour 100 000 years ago and comparison with our behaviour today. What was driving humans behaviour back then? Are we any different today? What did modern human back then knew and practiced that we’ve lost today? Where are we going as a specie?

Surrender
Surrender to a higher power.
After all this time what other choice is there?
After all the ups were followed by downs, and all the downs followed by ups, and up and down and up and down, what other choice have we got left?
How much longer will we fool ourselves into thinking that we have real control, intellectual understanding or religious certainty in a universe vast beyond imagination?
Surrender. A higher power. Life. This moment.
I rebelled against Religion and Church (Dutch Reformed Christianity) from a very young age. The rigidity and the conservatism really put me off.
But I discovered that it wasn’t so much religion that put me off. It was the ignorance. Ignorance of basic human egoistic tendencies.
Everybody does it. But few people seem to notice.
Regardless of what we believe, we fight with one another about our beliefs. And through that fighting we create…
